  • We will recheck the official sources in parade week and update this page if the 2026 details differ.

When is the 2026 Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade?

According to Macy's 100-day countdown announcement, the 100th Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade runs Thursday, November 26, 2026, and the national broadcast starts at 8:30 a.m. Macy's says the 100th parade will have a record lineup of 100 inflatable elements. Event details, the lineup and viewing guidance live on Macy's official parade page.

The scale is the planning problem. The City of New York's 2025 closure bulletin expected more than 3.5 million spectators along the route. In 2025 the route ran down Central Park West, along Central Park South and down Sixth Avenue from 59th Street to 34th Street, finishing at Herald Square. A 100th parade is unlikely to draw a smaller crowd.

Closures are set by the NYPD and the city says they can change at the NYPD's direction. We use the 2025 bulletin below as the pattern until the 2026 version is published. If the 2026 route changes, Macy's page and the new bulletin will say so first.

Which streets close for the parade? (2025 official pattern)

The table lists the closures from the 2025 bulletin that matter most for a car. Times are for 2025, when the parade fell on Thursday, November 27. Read them as a guide to where the barricades sit, not as the 2026 schedule.

Broadway, 34th to 42nd St; Seventh Ave, 32nd to 42nd StThu 2 a.m. to 5 p.m. (Seventh Ave to 8 p.m.)Times Square south to Penn Station

Two patterns stand out. First, the Upper West Side closes a day early: Central Park West from 72nd to 86th Street and most side streets between Central Park West and Columbus Avenue closed from early Wednesday for the balloon inflation. Second, almost everything reopened by 3 p.m. Thursday, with Seventh Avenue near Penn Station the late exception at 8 p.m. A Thanksgiving dinner pickup at 4 p.m. is usually a normal trip.

Where can a car drop you off for the parade?

A car cannot take you to the curb on the route. Plan the last few blocks on foot and choose a drop-off on an avenue that was open in 2025. On the Upper West Side that means Columbus Avenue or Amsterdam Avenue, then a walk east on a side street outside the inflation blocks. In Midtown, Eighth Avenue to the west and Madison Avenue to the east were not on the closure list, and both sit a short walk from Sixth Avenue viewing spots.

Tell the dispatcher which side of the route you want to end up on. Crossing the parade is slow and sometimes only possible at controlled points, so a family that starts west of Sixth Avenue should usually stay west for the morning. If you are staying in Midtown, our chauffeur service in NYC can stage the car on the open avenue nearest your hotel's side entrance rather than its front door on a closed block.

Timing matters as much as place. The closures start overnight and the curbside viewing spots along the route are first come, first served, so families who want to stand near the front plan an early drop-off. Macy's parade page carries the official viewing guidance. Later arrivals usually watch from farther back or from a hotel room booked in advance.

How do hotels and brunch reservations change the plan?

Many visitors book a hotel or a restaurant table near the route for the morning. Both work well with a car if you plan around the barricades. Ask the hotel which entrance stays reachable by car on parade morning; several Midtown hotels have doors on both an avenue and a side street, and only one of them may be open to traffic. Give that address, not the street number on the confirmation email, to the dispatcher.

For a lunch or brunch after the parade, look at where the restaurant sits against the closure table. A table east of Fifth Avenue or west of Eighth Avenue is easy to reach as soon as the parade passes. A table on Sixth Avenue in the 40s or 50s may not be reachable by car until the street reopens, which was 3 p.m. in 2025. Either walk there and have the car meet you after the meal, or move the reservation to 3 p.m.

Families heading home or to relatives after lunch often book the car for the whole late morning. An hourly car service in New York City keeps the vehicle and the luggage with you while plans move around, and it is priced the same on Thanksgiving as on any other day.

First Class SUV$150/hr all-in$440 all-in$580 all-inA family with strollers or grandparents, up to 6 passengers

All-in — gratuity, tax & card processing included, rounded to the nearest $10. Estimates, not binding quotes. No holiday surcharge. Mercedes S-Class is available in select markets on request.

Overtime is billed for the actual additional minutes at the applicable per-minute rate for your selected vehicle. Non-airport pickups include 15 minutes of complimentary waiting. Groups larger than six usually fit better in a Sprinter van in NYC, which keeps everyone together through the crowds instead of splitting the family across two cars.

Can you fly into NYC on Thanksgiving morning?

You can, and the airport end of the trip is normal. JFK, LaGuardia and Newark are all well away from the route. The friction is the last mile: a hotel on Central Park South, on Sixth Avenue in Midtown or near Herald Square may not be reachable until mid-afternoon. Tell us the hotel and we will plan the drop-off at an open corner. Book with your flight number through our JFK airport car service page; Airport pickups include 45 minutes of complimentary waiting for domestic flights and 60 minutes for international flights, starting when the flight actually lands. We track your flight.

All-in — gratuity, tax & card processing included, rounded to the nearest $10; the Port Authority airport access fee and the MTA and New York State per-trip charges are already included. Estimates for a direct transfer, not binding quotes.

Inside meet-and-greet is included at no extra charge on every sedan and SUV airport pickup; for Sprinter vans and buses it is an add-on with a second team member, quoted at booking. The bigger risk for Thanksgiving travelers is the days around the parade, not the parade morning itself. Tuesday, November 24, 2026 is on NYC DOT's 2026 Gridlock Alert Days list, and in 2025 the Sunday after Thanksgiving set TSA's single-day screening record at the time. Our Thanksgiving and New Year's Eve transportation guide covers the wider holiday stretch.

What about the balloon inflation on Wednesday?

The balloons are inflated the afternoon before the parade around the American Museum of Natural History. In 2025 the city's bulletin closed the side streets from West 72nd to West 85th Street between Central Park West and Columbus Avenue, plus the 79th Street transverse, from early Wednesday until 3 p.m. Thursday. Public viewing hours and the entry point are set by Macy's and the NYPD and posted before the event. If Macy's keeps the usual schedule, the 2026 inflation will be on Wednesday, November 25; confirm on the Macy's parade page before you plan around it.

For a car, the inflation night works like a small event. Drop off on Amsterdam Avenue or on Columbus Avenue away from the entry point, agree a pickup corner a few blocks away, and expect slow traffic across the Upper West Side all evening. Hourly service is the easier fit, since crowd flow decides when you leave.

What should you send when you book a parade-day car?

  • Pickup address, and the entrance that stays open to cars if your hotel has two.
  • Where you plan to watch, and which side of the route you want to stay on.
  • A backup meeting corner a block or two from the first one, in case it is behind a barricade.
  • Passenger count, any strollers or folding wheelchairs, and the mobile number for the chauffeur to text.
  • Lunch or dinner addresses after the parade, so the hours you book match the day.

Compare vehicles on our all-in chauffeur rates page, then send the plan through Thanksgiving parade car reservations or call (888) 420-0177. For other event planning, see the Detailed Drivers blog, including our NYC Marathon road-closure guide for November 1. Free cancellation up to 48 hours before pickup for sedans and SUVs, 72 hours for Sprinters. No charge if your flight is cancelled. Event and high-demand bookings follow the window in your quote.

Before you leave on Thursday, check the city's weekly traffic advisory and MTA service changes. The city's bulletin points bus riders to the MTA for route changes on parade morning.

Not on the route. Pick a drop-off on an avenue that was not on the 2025 closure list, such as Columbus or Amsterdam Avenue on the Upper West Side, Eighth Avenue on the west side of Midtown, or Madison Avenue east of Sixth, then walk in. Arrive early; curbside spots are first come, first served.

Is it worth booking an hourly car on Thanksgiving morning?

It is for families with young children, older relatives or a lunch reservation after the parade. The car waits on an open street outside the closures and moves when you do. Hourly service is $150/hr all-in for a First Class SUV with a 3-hour minimum ($440 all-in).

Can I still get to JFK, LaGuardia or Newark on Thanksgiving morning?

Yes. The airports are far from the route; the issue is the Manhattan end if your hotel is near Central Park West, Sixth Avenue or Herald Square. Estimated all-in Business Sedan fares to Midtown are $220 all-in from JFK, $180 all-in from LaGuardia and $220 all-in from Newark.

When is the balloon inflation, and can a car get close?

In 2025 the city's bulletin closed the side streets from West 72nd to West 85th Street between Central Park West and Columbus Avenue from early Wednesday until 3 p.m. Thursday. A car can drop you on Columbus or Amsterdam Avenue, not on the inflation blocks; Macy's posts the public viewing hours.
