PHL Terminal Overview
Philadelphia Airport has a linear terminal layout — Terminals A through F run roughly east to west, all connected post-security by a walkway. You can walk between any terminal without re-clearing security, though longer connections (A-East to F) take 15-20 minutes on foot. A Terminal Connector train runs between the terminals for those who prefer not to walk.
The airport's unique feature: it's one of the few large U.S. airports where every terminal is accessible from the same curb-side departure/arrival roads. This makes pickup and dropoff relatively straightforward once you know your terminal.
Terminal-by-Terminal Breakdown
American Airlines' premium international terminal. Gates A1-A19. Houses the AA Flagship Lounge (business class + top status), Admirals Club A-West, and international departures. British Airways, Lufthansa, Aer Lingus, and other international partners also depart from A-West.
Key fact: If you're flying transatlantic business class on AA, this is your terminal. Pre-clear at the Flagship check-in counters on the departures level.
American Airlines domestic departures. Gates A20-A29 (approximately). Contains a second Admirals Club. Primarily used for AA short-haul domestic routes (BOS, DCA, BNA, CLT shuttle service). Connected to A-West post-security.
Terminals B and C form the core of American's Philadelphia hub operations. The vast majority of AA's domestic routes operate from here. Gates B1-B10 and C16-C30 (approximately). Admirals Club in Terminal B.
Hub connections: DFW, CLT, MIA, LAX, ORD, JFK, BOS, ATL, and all major American markets. These terminals handle the most passengers at PHL daily.
Terminal D handles overflow American Airlines routes and some regional/commuter operations via American Eagle. Gates D-1 through D-12. No lounge. Connected to Terminals C and E post-security.
Southwest Airlines operates exclusively from Terminal E at PHL. Gates E1-E18. Southwest has strong service from PHL to MDW, BNA, BOS, MCO, FLL, LAS, and other Southwest markets. No lounge.
Note: Terminal E is the farthest west terminal. If flying Southwest, allow extra time to reach the curb from the parking structure.
Terminal F is the most diverse terminal at PHL. Houses United Airlines (EWR, ORD, SFO, IAH), Delta Air Lines (ATL, JFK, LAX), Alaska Airlines, JetBlue, Spirit, Frontier, and additional international carriers. Gates F1-F28.
SEPTA Airport Line station is located in Terminal F (ground level) -- the only way to take the train to Center City. If you are meeting someone arriving on a non-AA flight and taking SEPTA, meet at Terminal F.
SEPTA Airport Line: Rail to Center City
PHL is one of the few major U.S. airports with direct rail service to the city center. The SEPTA Airport Line (Regional Rail) connects the airport to downtown Philadelphia and continues to suburban stations.

When Car Service Beats SEPTA
SEPTA is great for solo travel to Center City hotels. But for groups of 3+, multiple bags, non-Center City destinations (Main Line, South Jersey, Wilmington, King of Prussia), or late-night arrivals (SEPTA stops before midnight), car service is faster, more comfortable, and often comparable in cost when split among travelers.
