Hilton Head trips commonly begin at one of two different airports: Hilton Head Island Airport (HHH) on the island or Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport (SAV) in Georgia. The right plan depends on the flight, exact resort or rental address, Sea Pines access, luggage, and whether the party needs only an airport transfer or transportation during the stay.

HHH and SAV are different airports

HHH is a Beaufort County airport on Hilton Head Island. SAV is Savannah/Hilton Head International across the state line in Georgia. Do not use “Hilton Head airport” as the only reservation detail. Provide the three-letter code, airline, flight, passenger phone, and final property address.

HHH may reduce the road portion when a suitable flight is available. SAV has its own rental counters, taxi providers, rideshare zone, and prearranged transportation roster. Compare total flight and ground schedules rather than an unsupported universal drive-time claim.

Ground transportation at SAV

The official SAV ground-transportation page places Uber and Lyft pickup at the north entrance of baggage claim. It lists authorized taxis and says prearranged limousine or sedan pickup must be arranged before arrival. Rental counters are in baggage claim, with covered rental and return lots adjacent to the terminal.

For late arrivals, check the provider's operating hours. SAV says taxis are available for late-night arrivals, while individual rental counters publish different schedules. A prearranged trip should name the passenger, pickup method, island destination, and any gate or host information.

Arriving at HHH

HHH's official ground-transportation page places its taxi stand to the right when exiting the terminal. Rideshare pickup is directly outside the terminal exit in the signed ground-transportation area. Collect baggage before requesting the ride and verify the vehicle and plate in the app.

The airport's car-rental page places rental counters inside the terminal's baggage-claim area and the designated rental lot adjacent to the terminal. It says counter hours vary seasonally, so verify the company's hours and reservation details before arrival.

Palmetto Breeze lists Route 505 as the island's seasonal, fare-free trolley. Its published 2026 season ran from April 11 through September 7 and had ended by this guide's September 18 update. The published Route 505 stops cover South Island and Mid-Island destinations but do not include HHH airport. Check the current operator page for a future season before relying on it during a stay.

Sea Pines gate access

Sea Pines CSA manages vehicle access. A resort guest, short-term renter, property-owner guest, general visitor, and commercial provider may use different credentials. Guests should have the host name or reservation information ready; renters should follow their property manager's pass instructions.

Current visitor guidance says daily and weekly passes are sold at Greenwood Gate or Ocean Gate and that daily access is valid from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. Commercial transportation cannot use a property-owner guest pass as a substitute for commercial access. Confirm with the operator and property who handles the applicable pass or decal. Do not add a visitor fee to a transportation quote unless its scope is stated.

Resorts, rentals, golf, and beach trips

Use the full property name and street address. Hilton Head communities can have gates, multiple entrances, villas with similar names, and loading restrictions. Include the host or reservation name, unit number when appropriate, gate instructions, and a reachable contact.

Count golf clubs, strollers, beach equipment, wheelchairs, checked bags, and carry-ons. Ask the operator to confirm the actual vehicle's usable seating and cargo fit. A vehicle-class label is not a capacity guarantee.

Groups and events

Build a manifest for travelers arriving on different flights at HHH or SAV. Decide whether each arrival leaves independently or waits for a defined group. Record flight numbers, phones, bags, destination, accessibility needs, and one coordinator who may approve changes.

For weddings, golf groups, conferences, or dinners, verify venue loading, gated-community access, vehicle staging, and the final return. A longer event minimum applies only when it is stated in the confirmed booking.
