For a same-day trip, an hourly booking almost always makes more sense than two one-way fares. The clock runs from pickup in Austin to drop-off back home, and the chauffeur waits at each tasting room, restaurant and shop. Nobody in your group has to stay sober to drive, and purchases stay locked in the car between stops.

This is a sample, not a fixed tour. You choose the wineries; we suggest an order that keeps the driving sensible. Many tasting rooms ask larger groups to reserve ahead, so book your tastings before the car.
The Austin to Fredericksburg trip is long enough, and rural enough, that the usual city options behave differently. Here is what each one looks like on US-290.

|---|---|---|
| Detailed Drivers | Reserved chauffeur both ways, waits at stops on hourly bookings, price set before the day. | Wine days, weddings, weekend stays. |

Fredericksburg is the most popular day trip and weekend getaway from Austin, Texas, for good reason. The road trip west on US-290 crosses the Texas Hill Country, passes through Dripping Springs and Johnson City, and ends in a small town with a long Main Street of shops, restaurants and tasting rooms. Whether you go for wine, history or the outdoors, the drive itself is part of the trip, and a chauffeur lets everyone in the car enjoy the rolling hills instead of watching the road.
The stretch of US-290 between Johnson City and Fredericksburg is the center of Texas wine country, with tasting rooms on both sides of the highway and more down the side roads. Well-known names on or near the route include Becker Vineyards near Stonewall, William Chris Vineyards in Hye, Grape Creek Vineyards and Signor Vineyards closer to Fredericksburg. Most wineries pour tasting flights rather than full glasses, and many take reservations, which matters for groups. Fredericksburg wine tours work best with three or four winery stops and a proper lunch in the middle; trying to fit six tasting rooms into one day mostly means more time in the car. With a chauffeur as your designated driver, the only decision is which bottles to bring home.
German immigrants founded Fredericksburg in 1846, and that German heritage still shows in the stone buildings, the bakeries and the town's Pioneer Museum. Fredericksburg's Main Street is the place to walk: antique stores, art galleries, western wear shops and restaurants line both sides for several blocks. Wear comfortable walking shoes and let the chauffeur drop you at one end and collect you at the other, which saves circling for parking on busy weekends. The National Museum of the Pacific War, honoring Fredericksburg native Admiral Chester Nimitz, sits just off Main Street and easily fills two hours.
Several stops turn the drive into an outdoor adventure. Pedernales Falls State Park sits just east of Johnson City, with limestone falls along the Pedernales River. LBJ National Historical Park has two districts: the boyhood home in Johnson City and the LBJ Ranch near Stonewall, where Lyndon B. Johnson lived and worked. North of Fredericksburg, Enchanted Rock State Natural Area is a massive pink granite dome with sweeping Hill Country views from the top; Texas Parks and Wildlife recommends reserving a day pass before you go. In spring, the Willow City Loop north of town is a well-known scenic route for wildflowers; it runs through private ranch land, so visitors are asked to stay on the road.
Weekend traffic leaving Austin on Saturday morning and returning on Sunday afternoon is the main thing to plan around. A weekday trip is calmer in every way: emptier tasting rooms, easier lunch tables and a quicker drive home. If you can only go on a weekend, start early and head west before 9 a.m.
Getting to Fredericksburg, TX is only half the plan. Once you are there, wineries spread out along US-290 and the farm roads, Main Street shopping is a long walk end to end, and Enchanted Rock is a 17-mile drive north. Local wine tours and Fredericksburg shuttle services run in town, but they keep their own schedules and routes. If you are staying for the weekend, you can book a one-way transfer from Austin and use local options in town, or keep a chauffeur for the whole stay so the same car takes you to dinner, the tasting rooms and back to Austin, Texas on Sunday.
For a day trip, hourly is the simpler choice. The chauffeur drives you from Austin through Dripping Springs and Johnson City, near the midway point of the trip, waits at each winery stop and restaurant, and has the car ready when you finish your wine tasting. Groups of up to 14 ride together in the Sprinter Van, which is how most birthday groups, bachelorette weekends and corporate outings from Austin handle Texas Hill Country wine tours.
If the plan includes live music, Luckenbach is a short detour south of US-290 and famous for it, and many Main Street restaurants host local bands on weekends. Fredericksburg's small town charm, unique shops and long list of popular wineries are the reason most people come; our job is to make the drive to Central Texas wine country the easy part of the trip.
The first 20 miles are the slow part. US-290 through Oak Hill and out toward Dripping Springs backs up on weekday mornings and evenings. A 9:30 or 10 a.m. start on a weekday gets you past it, and on weekends traffic is usually lighter in the morning than on the Sunday afternoon return.
Popular tasting rooms on US-290 fill up on spring and fall weekends, and many ask groups to book in advance. Lock in your tasting times first, send us the list, and we will build the pickup time and the order of stops around them so you are not rushing between appointments.
LBJ National Historical Park has sites in Johnson City and near Stonewall, both on US-290. The National Museum of the Pacific War is in Fredericksburg itself. Enchanted Rock is about 17 miles north of town; Texas Parks and Wildlife recommends reserving a day pass before you go, so sort that out before you book the car.

Yes. A chauffeured day means nobody in your group has to skip the tastings to drive back to Austin on US-290. The chauffeur stays with the car, holds your purchases, and handles the drive home after the last winery stop.

Yes. The return leg is priced the same way as the trip out, on real road miles: $560 in the Business Sedan from Fredericksburg to downtown Austin, or $590 to AUS for a flight home. Tell us your hotel or bed and breakfast and the time you want to leave, and we confirm the chauffeur the day before.
A few days is usually enough for weekdays. For spring and fall weekends, and for groups that need a Sprinter Van, book two to three weeks ahead.
