Washington has three commercial airports,. Reagan National (DCA) sits just across the Potomac from downtown, Dulles (IAD) is out in Loudoun and Fairfax counties, and Baltimore/Washington (BWI) is in Anne Arundel County, on the Baltimore side of the region. Most travelers use one of them for a whole trip. This page is for the ones who cannot: a flight that was rebooked into a different airport, a pair of separate tickets, an international arrival at Dulles with a domestic connection out of Reagan, or a return trip that starts at BWI because that was the fare.
The drive between airports is the part people underestimate. BWI to DCA is 37.7 miles and DCA to IAD is 28.4, and BWI to Dulles is 58.1 miles, about 78 minutes without any traffic at all. A direct car means one pickup at the arriving airport and one drop-off at the departing one, with your bags staying in the trunk the whole way. A transit chain means finding the right platform, the right line and the right shuttle with the bags in your hands, at each change.
If you are heading into the city instead, BWI arrivals bound for the District are covered further down. For terminal detail at each airport, see our BWI car service, DCA car service and IAD car service pages, and for the full picture see the Washington DC airport car service hub.
All six directions between the three airports are priced below, from $280 for a sedan on the DCA to IAD run up to $450 for a sedan from Dulles to BWI. Every figure comes from our rate engine using routed miles. Compare vehicles on the Detailed Drivers fleet page, see Detailed Drivers rates, or reserve online.
| Route | Business Sedan | First Class SUV | Sprinter Van | Distance · time |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| BWI → DCA | $330 | $410 | $860 | 37.7 mi · about 58 min in the OSRM model |
| DCA → BWI | $320 | $400 | $840 | 35.9 mi · about 55 min in the OSRM model |
| BWI → IAD (Dulles) | $450 | $550 | $1,040 | 58.1 mi · about 78 min in the OSRM model |
| IAD → BWI | $450 | $550 | $1,040 | 57.8 mi · about 77 min in the OSRM model |
| DCA → IAD | $280 | $350 | $780 | 28.4 mi · about 45 min in the OSRM model |
| IAD → DCA | $280 | $350 | $780 | 28.5 mi · about 43 min in the OSRM model |
All-in estimates: gratuity, tax and card processing included, rounded to the nearest $10. Drive times are OSRM routing-model estimates without live traffic, and rush hour can add a lot on the Baltimore-Washington Parkway, I-95, I-495 and I-66. Your written quote confirms the actual journey and any additions. Mercedes-Benz S-Class available on request.
BWI to DCA connects the Baltimore-side airport with Reagan National near the District. The route is 37.7 miles and takes about 58 minutes without traffic, and DCA to BWI is 35.9 miles, about 55 minutes without traffic. The sedan price is $330 one way and $320 the other. Most of the trip runs on the Baltimore-Washington Parkway or I-95 and then I-395 or the city streets near Reagan National, and a crash or a rush-hour crawl on any of them changes the arithmetic.
The two directions feel different. Leaving BWI, you are collecting bags at a large airport and then driving south toward the District. Leaving DCA for BWI, you are often chasing a flight, and the drive is the stretch you can least afford to lose. If that is you, tell dispatch the departure time, the airline and the terminal you are flying from, so the pickup is set with a margin rather than to the minute.
Reagan National also has a small footprint that makes a short wait practical, and Metrorail's Blue Line has a Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport station per WMATA's Blue Line page. We cover those terminal and rail details on our DCA page rather than repeating them here, and on this page the focus stays on getting between airports with luggage.
Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI) sits between Baltimore and Washington, and a lot of Washington-bound travelers end up flying into Baltimore airport because of direct flights, schedules or fares that Reagan National does not offer that day. The actual airline timetable and destination determine whether arriving at BWI works for the complete trip. That is where the BWI airport to DCA search comes from: one leg booked into Baltimore BWI, another out of Reagan National or Dulles.
Travelers compare ticket prices and direct flights across the three airports all the time, and may select Baltimore Washington International for the fare or schedule. Before you pay for that ticket, add the ground leg: a car from Thurgood Marshall Airport to Reagan National, Dulles or downtown is an engine-computed example on this page, so you can decide with the whole trip in mind. BWI's concourses are spread out, so allow walking time from the gate to bag claim when you set the pickup; your chauffeur tracks the flight either way. Booking in advance is easy online, and you can send the flight number and onward departure time so dispatch sets the plan around both.
Without traffic the drive is about 58 minutes over 37.7 miles. In the morning and evening peaks, plan on more, and leave real margin if you are flying out of DCA the same day. If you are flying again on your next trip through BWI, the same booking works in reverse: DCA to BWI is $320 by sedan.
Not every BWI arrival is connecting. Many are headed to a downtown hotel, Embassy Row on Massachusetts Avenue, National Harbor for a convention, or a suburb in Maryland or Virginia. Those airport transfers are priced the same way, from the routed miles. For town-by-town fares see limo service in Maryland, and for full detail on the Baltimore side read our BWI car service page.
BWI to Dulles is 58.1 miles, about 78 minutes without traffic, and it is $450 in a Business Sedan, $550 in a First Class SUV and $1,040 in a Sprinter Van. Dulles to BWI is 57.8 miles, about 77 minutes without traffic, and $450 in a sedan. These two airports sit on opposite sides of the region, so the drive crosses most of it, usually along the Beltway and the Parkway or I-95.
A road transfer across the region needs substantial space in the itinerary. Add the time to deplane and claim bags, a cushion for traffic, and the check-in and security time at the second airport, and the realistic gap between a landing at one and a departure from the other is wide. For a Dulles arrival from overseas, add passport control and customs before you reach your chauffeur. For a tight same-day swap, ask the airline about a later flight before committing to the ground transfer.
Groups use this route too. A team landing at Dulles for a meeting near Baltimore, or a family returning from an international trip into Dulles with a domestic flight out of BWI, is the same idea with more people. A Sprinter van rental in Washington DC keeps up to 14 passengers and 12 bags in one vehicle for $1,040 from BWI to Dulles.
The two District airports are closer to each other than either is to BWI, but not by as much as the map suggests. DCA to Dulles is 28.4 miles, about 45 minutes without traffic, and Dulles to Reagan is 28.5 miles, about 43 minutes without traffic. The sedan price is $280 for DCA to IAD and $280 for IAD to DCA, and a First Class SUV is $350 and $350.
Travelers searching for "dulles to reagan" or "reagan to dulles" are often thinking about the Metro, and the Silver Line does have a Washington Dulles International Airport station per WMATA's Silver Line page, while the Blue Line serves Reagan National. A rail trip between them is possible with a transfer, and it can work for one traveler with a carry-on and plenty of time. It works less well with large bags, a time-sensitive flight or a late-night arrival. Check WMATA for current service before you rely on it. Families and groups should also tell dispatch how many people are traveling, since a party of seven or more belongs in a Sprinter Van and not in two cars. Whichever way you go, keep both boarding passes and the next airline's cutoff in front of you while you decide.
A morning arrival at Dulles for a meeting downtown and an evening flight out of Reagan is one possible itinerary, and a booked car turns the airport change into a single line in the schedule. Our DC corporate travel page explains account billing for repeat travelers.
Plenty of travelers land at BWI for the fare and then need the District, Maryland or Northern Virginia. The table below prices the common BWI arrivals. For a ride that is not an airport run at all, our Baltimore to Washington DC car service page covers the city-to-city trip, and the car service in Baltimore pages cover the other direction.
| Route | Business Sedan | First Class SUV | Sprinter Van | Distance · time |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| BWI → Downtown DC (near the White House) | $310 | $380 | $820 | 33.1 mi · about 54 min in the OSRM model |
| BWI → Capitol Hill | $300 | $370 | $810 | 32.1 mi · about 49 min in the OSRM model |
| BWI → Georgetown | $320 | $390 | $830 | 34.3 mi · about 56 min in the OSRM model |
| BWI → Tysons, VA | $380 | $470 | $940 | 46.3 mi · about 60 min in the OSRM model |
| BWI → Bethesda, MD | $320 | $390 | $830 | 34.9 mi · about 48 min in the OSRM model |
| BWI → Annapolis | $260 | $320 | $730 | 23.9 mi · about 33 min in the OSRM model |
All-in estimates: gratuity, tax and card processing included, rounded to the nearest $10. Drive times are OSRM routing-model estimates without live traffic, and rush hour can add a lot. Mercedes-Benz S-Class available on request.
BWI to Bethesda and BWI to Annapolis are also covered on our limo service in Maryland page, and BWI to Tysons is the usual start for a trip into limo service in Northern Virginia. For the District itself, see our DC car service page.
Airlines set check-in and bag-drop cutoffs, and the arriving flight may need baggage collection or passport control before the car journey starts. Use the routing-model times as a reference, then add the actual airline requirements, arrival processing and road conditions for your travel day.
Tell dispatch both flights when you book. The chauffeur tracks the landing, so a delayed arrival moves the pickup with it, and you will know the plan before you reach the curb. For airport policies on waiting time and the guarantee, see our service guarantees page. Dispatch cannot move an airline's cutoff, so the final decision on a tight connection is yours.
A few habits help on any of the six routes. Keep your boarding pass and passport reachable rather than packed, because the second airport will ask for them quickly. Charge your phone before you land so the chauffeur's text reaches you. Decide before you leave the arrival airport whether you will check bags again, carry them on or ship them, since that choice sets how much time the next airport needs. If the first flight is delayed more than expected, call dispatch at (202) 915-5660 as soon as you know, because an early heads-up gives us more room to adjust the pickup than a late one.
Each airport lays out its arrivals differently, and the details change as terminals are renovated. Your chauffeur confirms the meeting point by text. Reagan National and Dulles require sedan and limousine pickups to be reserved in advance. App zones, taxi stands and private-car meeting instructions are separate categories.
For one traveler with a carry-on and a lot of slack, transit can work. With luggage, a group or a fixed departure time, the number of transfers is what hurts. Metrorail's Blue Line serves Reagan National and its Silver Line serves Dulles, and BWI lists Amtrak, MARC and bus options on its site, but no single line connects the three.
| Option | How it works between airports | Best fit |

If you land at one airport with a few hours to spare, you can book the car by the hour and use it for a meeting or lunch on the way to the next flight. The minimum is 3 hours, and one chauffeur stays with you across every stop.
| Vehicle | Per hour | 3 hours | 5 hours | Seats |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Business Sedan | $120/hr | $360 | $600 | Up to 3 |
| First Class SUV | $150/hr | $440 | $730 | Up to 6 |
| Sprinter Van | $240/hr | $710 | $1,180 | Up to 14 |
All-in estimates: gratuity, tax and card processing included, rounded to the nearest $10. Mercedes-Benz S-Class available on request. Overtime is billed for the actual additional minutes at the applicable per-minute rate for your selected vehicle.
Book through the reservation form or call (202) 915-5660. These details let dispatch time the pickup and set the margin.
For airport pickups we track your flight, so the On-Time Guarantee follows the actual landing time: your chauffeur is waiting when you land and texts you. If they are not, we refund the full fare. We serve the Washington region by reservation through dispatch and keep no office or garage at any of the three airports.

A Detailed Drivers car from BWI to Reagan National is $330 in a Business Sedan, $410 in a First Class SUV and $860 in a Sprinter Van, all-in. The drive is 37.7 miles, about 58 minutes without traffic. The price covers gratuity, tax and card processing, and your written quote confirms the actual journey and any additions.
Reagan National to BWI is $320 in a Business Sedan, $400 in a First Class SUV and $840 in a Sprinter Van, all-in. The route is 35.9 miles, about 55 minutes without traffic, and rush hour on the Baltimore-Washington Parkway or I-95 can add a lot.
BWI to Dulles is $450 in a Business Sedan, $550 in a First Class SUV and $1,040 in a Sprinter Van, all-in. It is 58.1 miles, about 78 minutes without traffic, and it is one of the longest airport-to-airport directions. Dulles to BWI is $450 in a sedan for 57.8 miles, about 77 minutes without traffic.
DCA to Dulles is $280 in a Business Sedan and $350 in a First Class SUV, about 45 minutes without traffic over 28.4 miles. IAD to DCA is $280 in a sedan and $350 in an SUV, about 43 minutes without traffic. A Sprinter Van is $780 for DCA to IAD and $780 for IAD to DCA. Both directions use Northern Virginia road corridors, which can slow sharply at rush hour.
There is no single answer, and we do not publish one. Start with the drive (for example, about 58 minutes without traffic from BWI to DCA), add time to get off the plane and meet your chauffeur, add the check-in and security time your next airline and airport ask for, then add a cushion for traffic on the Baltimore-Washington Parkway, I-95, I-495 or I-66. Check your airline for its bag-drop cutoff, because on a separate ticket the cutoff is firm. If the margin looks thin, rebook the later flight rather than gamble on the drive.
Sedan and SUV airport pickups include inside meet-and-greet. For a Sprinter Van, inside meet-and-greet is an add-on quoted at booking. Airport pickups include 45 minutes of complimentary waiting for domestic arrivals and 60 minutes for international arrivals, starting when the flight lands, and the chauffeur tracks your flight.
On-Time Guarantee: if your chauffeur is not at the pickup address on your booking by your scheduled pickup time, we refund the full fare. It covers every booking, every vehicle and every city, 24/7. The guarantee applies to the address and time on your booking; if you change either, it follows the updated details we confirm. For airport pickups we track your flight, so your pickup time follows the actual landing and your chauffeur is waiting when you land and texts you.
Sometimes. Metrorail's Blue Line has a Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport station and the Silver Line has a Washington Dulles International Airport station, and BWI lists Amtrak, MARC and bus options on its website. There is no single rail line that links all three airports, so a transit chain usually means more than one transfer with your bags. A direct car is one pickup and one drop-off.
Sedan and SUV bookings receive a full refund when cancelled at least 48 hours before the scheduled pickup time. Sprinter bookings receive a full refund when cancelled at least 72 hours before the scheduled pickup time. Cancellations inside the applicable notice period are charged in full. If your flight is cancelled, there is no cancellation charge. These windows apply unless your quote says otherwise: event bookings and high-demand dates can carry a different window because of event pricing and availability, and your quote will state it.
No. Detailed Drivers serves the Washington region by reservation through dispatch and does not run an office or garage at any of the three airports. Pickups are arranged by reservation, and dispatch answers at (202) 915-5660 around the clock.
